NICOSIA - Cytamobile-Vodafone subscribers sent 9.3 million SMS messages over the Christmas weekend. There were 7 million on Christmas Day alone. This more than twice the average 3.4m text messages sent on a normal day.
The telecommunications authority said a total of 9.3 million messages had gone out from 6pm on Christmas Eve to 12 noon on Boxing Day.
From 6pm on Christmas Eve to midnight, subscribers sent out 1.5 million messages while on the 24 hours of midnight to midnight on Christmas Day, they sent 7 million.
From midnight to 12 noon on Boxing Day, texters were still busy, sending 810,000 messages, it added.
The busiest traffic was recorded at 11.08.19 on Christmas Day with 381 messages per second.
It said that despite the busy traffic no delays were recorded on the network.
