LARNACA - A Pyrga, Larnaca man - arrested for firing gunshots into the air to scare off EAC staff cutting off his electricity – tried to flee from Larnaca court following his sentencing.
The 22-year-old had fired gunshots into the air to scare off four Electricity Authority of Cyprus staff members coming to his house to cut off his electricity due to unpaid bills.
The man was taken to Larnaca Court on Wednesday and sentenced to four months of prison. The sentence triggered another incident as the man ran away from the court room just as the policemen were about to handcuff him. His father ran after him.
The 22-year-old ran towards Artemidos Avenue but he was caught by a policeman at the Court who returned the suspect to the Court.
His father, a 52-year-old also from Pyrga began shouting at the court over his son’s sentence saying “you have destroyed my son.”
Other family members also protested in this incident. The father was also arrested and remanded in custody to be charged tomorrow, Thursday.
The 22-year-old was sent to the Central Prisons to serve his sentence.
