BRUSSELS - The President of the European People’s Party (EPP), Wilfried Martens, congratulated Nicos Anastasiades last night. “On behalf of the entire political family of the EPP, I congratulate my good friend Nicos Anastasiades for the excellent result in the first round of the presidential elections. The result proves that Cypriots want a fundamental change of course for their country. “Cypriots want someone who has the leadership qualities and the credibility to lead Cyprus out of the current economic crisis; not someone who participated and endorsed the failed economic policies of the outgoing left-wing government.
“I am confident that after the second round of elections of February 24, Cyprus will have a President that is reliable and inspires confidence in Europe,” he said.
