NICOSIA – Joseph Daul MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, has said that the committed and determined leadership of Nicos Anastasiades can ensure the return to a sustainable path of recovery for Cyprus.

In a statement, Daul conveyed on behalf of his parliamentary group his congratulations to Nicos Anastasiades, Democratic Rally party leader, “on his historic election as President of the Republic of Cyprus".

“The people of Cyprus have given Nicos Anastasiades their trust in responsibly and consistently handling the huge and complex challenges lying ahead for Cyprus", outlined Joseph Daul MEP.

"At a moment of great economic difficulty in Cyprus and along with the long standing division of the island, voters have opted for a completely new political direction which under the strong, committed and determined leadership of Nicos Anastasiades can ensure the return to a sustainable path of recovery, economic growth, political dialogue, stability, security and social cohesiveness in Cyprus", Chairman Daul added.

He said he is “convinced that Nicos Anastasiades long-standing experience and strong international network, together with his new coalition government will succeed in implementing the necessary reforms towards the reconstruction of a new European future for the island, creating the opportunities for economic stability, jobs and growth and bringing Cyprus back to the core of European progress”.

Nicos Anastasiades was elected the 7th President of the Republic of Cyprus during Sunday’s runoff election with a 57.48% or 236.965 of the vote.
