LIMASSOL - Police officers caught over 200 drivers committing road traffic violations during a 12-hour blitz carried out in Limassol yesterday.
From the 533 motorists stopped, police found that 58 were under the influence of alcohol. A further 181 violations included 50 incidents of excessive speed, while others had failed to stop at traffic signals or were driving without valid road tax, or were driving with expired insurance cover among the many other violations.
Limassol’s Chief Traffic Control Officer Emilios Kafatos said: "unfortunately, the crackdown suggests that a significant portion of drivers still fail to comply with traffic laws despite the increase in inspections by officers, with many motorists committing the same offenses, particularly those involving driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding violations."
