LONDON - Expat Britons in Cyprus will not be getting their UK pensions until the situation here becomes clearer, a minister said Monday.
Payments will be suspended until the House has voted on the proposed savings levy.
Greg Clark, a Treasury minister, told British MPs that pension payments due Monday had been frozen to ensure that money from the Government reached its intended recipient.
Payments will resume once the situation becomes clear, he said.
He told pensioners in Cyprus that they could go online to change their designated bank accounts.
He said they should contact the International Pension Centre, and could find the details on the Department of Pensions and Welfare website.
