The Women of Lania’s annual ‘Lanes and Courtyards’ event will be taking place this weekend, May 19 and 20.
The yearly happening sees the Women opening up the flower-filled courtyards of their Limassol-district village to visitors.
According to co-organiser Glennis Mavrommatis: “Because Lania is so lovely especially in May, we decided, myself with Michael and Jackie Owen, that we would invite everyone who would like to, to come and see for themselves. So the Picturesque Lanes and Open Courtyards idea was born. The idea is that the women of the village open their courtyards for people to see and to show them Cypriot hospitality”. Some women offer drinks, Cypriot cakes and biscuits, or perhaps siouzouko and local Commandaria, all at no charge.
“It is just meant as a pleasant day out in the hills with no cost. Of course we do have a taverna and cafes should anyone like to have lunch or a snack,” Mavrommatis said.
The Women of Lania remain active throughout the year through fortnightly meetings and regular activities for the benefit of their community.
The courtyards are open to the public between 10am and 7pm.
