NICOSIA -- Heavy rain at times accompanied by hail fell throughout Cyprus early on Sunday morning, causing problems at several locations on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway.
A large influx of day trippers has caused congestion and problems in Troodos. Police are urging drivers to stay away from Troodos where snow has closed roads and led to many cars and buses to be stranded close to Troodos Square.
Police said that road conditions were treacherous, and many roads to Troodos are closed altogether.
Cyprus has been through an extended cold snap with unstable weather and heavy rain that has significantly improved dam stocks.
Snow at the top of Mount Olympus is 50 cm and 30 cm in Troodos square. The weather is expected to improve later today.
