NICOSIA - Anyone wanting child benefit or student grants must now apply to the Finance Ministry’s Grants and Benefits Office stating their income and assets.
Only those who meet the new criteria will be able to receive the grants, a spokesman said.
The move is part of the government’s austerity programme and is aimed at saving around €80m a year for the state coffers.
The grants will take some months to be considered but those who are eligible will receive payments backdated to January,
