ZAGREB – Cypriot tennis star Marcos Baghdatis moved into the second round of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors on Tuesday night after coming from behind to beat the Czech Republic’s Lukas Rosol.
Sixth seeded Baghdatis – who caused a stir in his last game when he smashed four tennis racquets in an explosive one-minute outburst after suffering a second round exit at the Australian Open – got off to a wobbly start against Rosol going down 4-6 but hit back in style in the remaining two sets 6-3, 6-3.
He will now take on home favourite Ivo Karlovic after the Croatian – who is ranked 46 in the world, one place higher than Baghdatis – defeated Blaz Kavcic 7-6(2), 6-3.
But before sorting out his affairs in the singles’ event, he will first be partnering Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny in the doubles’ event as they prepare to take on Julian Knowle of Austria and Germany’s Michael Kohlmann.
