NICOSIA- Communications Minister Efthymios Flourentzos and the leadership of bus companies are meeting on Wednesday morning in a final bid to solve a dispute that led to an indefinite strike of bus drivers across Cyprus from 6am this morning.
The bus drivers are protesting against failure by the companies to pay them their January salaries.
The companies argue the government had not paid them the agreed subsidies leaving them with no cash to pay bus drivers’ wages.
Flourentzos on Tuesday said the government had transferred €4m in the companies’ accounts on Tuesday but the companies said that was not enough.
They accused the government of violating their agreement and arbitrarily setting a lower cost per kilometre.
