NICOSIA - A Nicosia man was ordered to Wednesday stand trial on June 5 for allegedly calling President Demetris Christofias an idiot in a public.
According to what was said in court, the defendant was in his car at a traffic light junction in Engomi on August 3, when the president and his guard drove by.
He is accused of having rolled down his window and shouting “idiot president, resign.”
Members of the presidential guard allegedly heard the insult and stopped to arrest the defendant.
He was escorted to Strovolos police station for questioning where investigators asked him to apologise for the incident but he refused.
