NICOSIA - As changes loomed in how pensions were calculated along with a tax on golden handshakes, there was a surge in early retirements in the civil service in 2012.
An official announcement said that in 2012, out of 1,680 retirements, a total of 1,237 were early. There were 250 early retirements in December.
