NEW YORK - United Nations Security Council adopted late on Thursday with 14 votes in favour and one abstention the renewal for another six months of the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) .
Resolution 2089/201 is valid up until July 31, 2013, and the country which abstained from voting is Azerbaidjan.
The country's permanent representative to the UN expressed their disagreement saying that while the resolution must be a technical repetition, it includes information which is obsolete.
He said that resolution 2089 is the same as resolution 2058 and does not reflect developments during the past six months. As he noted, the resolution calls for more intensive talks, even though the talks halted in July 2012.
