NICOSIA - The Cyprus Airways employees union SYNYKA TEC has decided unanimously to accept proposed salary cuts and working hours changes put forward by the Board of Directors.
The decision was taken during an extraordinary meeting Monday morning.
A spokesman said the decision was taken with a view towards maintaining the company.
The spokesman said that the Secretariat had called for immediate consultation with the Council of Ministers to ensure financing of the company until next summer, as provided by the plan.
Compensation for the 272 employees who will lose their jobs has yet to be agreed.
The proposal provides graduated cuts in pay of between 7% and 20.5%, an increase in working hours to 40 hours per week and eliminating or reducing benefits.
