ZAGREB - Marcos Baghdatis suffered early elimination from the Zagreb Indoors tournament yesterday after going down in three sets, 6-3, 6-7[2-7], 4-6 to unfancied Blaz Kavcic.
After bouncing back from a set down to beat Germany’s Tobias Kamke in the first round, sixth seeded Baghdatis looked on course for a place in the quarterfinals of the Croatian tournament when he took the first set 6-3 against the 83rd ranked Slovenian.
But the Cypriot tennis star – a winner of the same tournament back in 2007 – lost the second set in a tie break before Kavcic broke his serve in the final set to prevail 6-4.
Meanwhile Baghdatis and Mikhail Youzhny are still in contention in the tournament doubles event.
