LIMASSOL - Giorgos Lillikas will not support eitherof the two candidates, heading for a run-off in Sunday’s presidential elections in Cyprus. Lillikas, who came third in votes during the first round of elections last Sunday, February 17, said differences with Nikos Anastasiades and Stavros Malas were enormous. He called on his supporters to vote at will this Sunday. Addressing supporters in Limassol,Lillikas said he would not meet with the two presidential contestants, since no real convergences are possible. He added that he disagrees with the positions of both Anastasiades and Malas on the Cyprus issue, the economy and the modernization of the political system.

“I stand firm on my positions and my principles”, Lillikas noted, and suggested to his supporters “to give no confidence vote” to either candidate.

Lillikas said he would announce his final proposal on his future plans on Friday.

Nikos Anastasiades was the winner of the first round of the presidential elections, garnering 200.591 of the vote, or 45.46%. AKEL-backed Stavros Malas came second with 118,755 (26.91%), while Giorgos Lillikas, who was supported by Socialist EDEK party failed to make it to the second round.

EDEK Political Bureau, which met today ahead of Sunday’s poll, said it would recommend to the party Central Committee not to back any of the two presidential hopefuls. The party’s final decision is expected on Thursday when the Central Committee will meet.
