NICOSIA - The polls opened in the second round of the presidential elections at 7am, Sunday, with Opposition Disy leader Nicos Anastasiades facing Akel-backed Stavros Malas in the runoff.
Polling stations will close at 6pm with the new President expected to be known an hour later, according to election officials.
Despite last Sunday’s major exit-polls fiasco, the four big television stations will be carrying out new ones, the results to be announced just after six.
There are 545,180 registered voters, final results will be known by 8pm and the proclamation ceremony – at Eleftheria Stadium in Nicosia - is scheduled for around 10pm.
The new President’s inauguration ceremony at the House of Representatives will take place on Thursday, the last day of incumbent President Demetris Christofias’ term in office.
