NICOSIA - Members of the new government were sworn in to their new posts Friday. First to take his oath was Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides. He was followed by his other colleagues who all swore to respect the Constitution and laws of the Republic and to preserve its independence and territorial integrity.
New president Nicos Anastasiades said that hard work and collective consulations would be needed to implement the government’s commitments to the people.
The ceremony took place in the new ceremonial hall of the presidential palace.
The new Ministers assured faith and respect for the Constitution and the laws of Cyprus .
On behalf of the Ministers, Kasoulides thanked the President for the confidence he had shown in them and said that everyone should be aware that they faced conditions that had not been seen for many years.
Kasoulides made special mention of the fact that the ministers had taken the lead from the president and were taking a salary cut of 25%.
After the ceremony, a wreath was laid at the statue of Archbishop Makarios in the courtyard of the palace and the first Cabinet meeting took place.
