NICOSIA - - A meeting between Finance Minister Michalis Sarris and heads of the Troika delegation, visiting Cyprus since Monday, has concluded.
Meetings held between the Finance Minister and the Troika (IMF, ECB, EC) aim at finalising a loan agreement with Cyprus’ international lenders.
Cypriot Nobel Laureate and President of the national economic policy council, Christophoros Pissarides, also attended the meeting along with other officials from various departments.
The Heads of the Troika is expected to be received on Thursday by the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and meet on Friday with the Central Bank Governor Panicos Demetriades.
Excluded from international capital markets, Cyprus has requested financial assistance from the EU bailout mechanism after its two largest banks sought state aid following massive losses of their Greek bond holdings estimated at €4.5 billion, as a result of the Greek sovereign debt haircut.
