LARNACA - Anorthosis scored a valuble 2-0 win over title holders APOEL at home on Sunday to put themselves back in the race for this year's title. APOEL, back from a mid week Champions League away match in Lyon, were unable to rise to the occasion at the Antonis Papadopoulos.
Anorthosis scored two goals early in the first half and despite the absence of significant players, dominated the game early on. The first goal came in the 8th minute with Zairi while six minutes later, Roncado took the ball off central defender Olivera to slip the ball past APOEL's keeper Chiotis.
Anorthsis defended well in the second half, and despite more attacking play by APOEL especially in the last 10 minutes was able to keep a clean sheet. The valuable three points brings it to 41, two below third placed APOEL on 43. Omonia lead with 46, followed by AEL with 44 but with a game to play later on Sunday.
