LONDON — Five Britons, including three soldiers, have been jailed for importing guns, ammunition and cocaine into the U.K.
Prosecutor Alison Saunders said one soldier and another who had resigned were caught returning home from Germany, where they were based, with five hand guns and dozens of live bullets hidden in their cars. Officers also found 500 grams of high-purity cocaine hidden in an army boot.
Saunders said analysis of phone data later showed the involvement of two other soldiers and a civilian contact they had in London.
The five men likely conspired to sell the weapons and cocaine to criminal gangs for profit, the prosecutor said.
The men, who were convicted on Monday, were sentenced Friday to between six to 14 years each.
