The most well-known and richest monastery in Cyprus. It was founded in 100 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It also contains one of three icons ascribed to St Luke. Close by is the tomb of Archbishop Makarios, first President of Cyprus who began his ministry as a novice at the monastery. It is the site of a fascinating religious museum.
